Why does my garage tell me my brake fluid needs changing

One of the checks we make during a services the water content of the brake fluid. This not because somebody has mixed them by mistake but because brake fluid is Hygroscopic, which means it absorbs or attracts moisture from the atmosphere over time, most manufacturers recommend two year intervals, but we insert a test probe and measure it’s water content,if it falls within acceptable limits we at GDK will not change it, deeming it an unnecessary expense.
The reason the fluid needs to be replaced is because, water in the system is undesirable as a corrosive medium for the braking system components, allows the brake fluid to boil in some heavy braking situations, and can allow the brake pedal to fade and cause increased stopping distances. There are many other reasons too, but surface to say it is all in the name of safety.
